Currently there are 2 of my California works on paper on show in Modern British at Messum’s, London. The exhibition continues until 8th September.

This painting, Ghost Town, was made from drawings of a trip to Bodie, a ghost town high in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. At over 8000ft its location is extremely high, the air thin and, even though it was late May, it had snowed the night before we visited. It is a remote and atmospheric place, 15 miles off the main road system, and the snow had made it into something bizarre and magical. The buildings of the town, laying across a high valley, looked as if they had been freshly scribbled into place between the blindingly white ground and white roofs invisible against the white sky.
