I’m still drawing at Beaumont. I go there about twice a week and walk the seawall making quick pencil drawings. I’m interested in the channels cut by the water; the way they are spaces but also, once drawn, an actual shape that has references to the shape and scale of a figure. I’m working towards a sequence of 14 paintings, trying to expand the emotional range of the painting.
Yesterday, as I was drawing, a kingfisher landed on the head of the sluice in front of me. It was intent on watching the silver flickerings of small fish feeding on the rising tide.
