My usual way of working is to go out to draw each day, continually drawing from the same subject matter. These drawings feed into an ongoing painting process. When away from the studio I make drawings and watercolours in bound notebooks and, if I want to use these to make paintings, it is a different process. There is no going back to make more drawings and rather than referring to a subject beyond themselves they need to be seen as complete things in themselves. So I’m trying a few things out in acrylic on paper, testing them out and seeing what I have and whether there is enough; and how I can turn them into a painted statement.
