So, I have started on some small paintings from drawings I made in Norfolk. The drawings are all graphite and watercolour in a bound notebook. I have been going through these and making A2 drawings in charcoal and watercolour. At some point in the process something happens, some kind of recognition that opens up a way to painting. In the paintings it is a fine balance between including too much or not enough; too much and it becomes a picture, too little and it is merely decoration. It is about making it simple but without loosing meaning.
